Brussels and Amsterdam For A European City Break

Although a great year round destination, Amsterdam is at perhaps it's most beautiful in the spring and autumn. If you have limited time on your hands you'll find a bicycle the best way to get around whilst in the city.

Cyclists outnumber cars by a long way in Amsterdam, and the bicycle is the most popular mode of transport in the city. There are many bicycle hire companies around and the choice is between a traditional "gearless" Dutch style bicycle or one of the more modern varieties. Don't worry if you're not that confident cycling on the roads, the drivers are well used to cyclists and will usually just give way to you. Make sure to look where you're going and don't be afraid to ring that bell - after all, all the locals do!

The Belgian capital may boast beer, chocolate and mussels from Brussels, but there is plenty more to see in this destination. The small scale of the city means that you can easily enjoy its sights and sounds within a weekend.

A few places worth visiting are the Grand Palace, the eclectic EU District and the Grotke market. Why find them yourselves though when you could have someone else show you around on a walking tour. Not only will you learn fascinating snippets about the city but it's a great way to get your bearings when you first arrive. You can even take a note of anything that you'd like to return to later.

Spend your second day soaking up the sights that took your fancy the most, and strolling around the little backstreets, sampling traditional chocolates and stopping in a Belgian bar for a good cold beer.

If you're looking for a great, cost-effective option for a getaway then a weekend break is ideal. It gives you the opportunity to have some fun, explore somewhere new and escape your normal routine.
